(Grades K-12)

The main objective of the "Hands-On Gallery" is to give children a chance to experience Alabama's past in an interactive environment. "Grandma's Attic" is a unique hands-on area where children dress up in clothes from an earlier time and play with a variety of objects from the non-permanent education collection.
The "Hands-On Gallery" also contains "Discovery Boxes" that aid children in exploring different topics in Alabama history such as World War II, American Indian pottery, quilt-making and Alabama's first ladies. Games, puzzles, photos, maps, toys, etc. stimulate children to learn by creating and playing.
The "Hands-On Gallery" also has an exhibit on Alabama native Helen Keller, a game that quizzes children on Alabama history and activity sheets which encourage them to have fun as they learn about Alabama history and the Archives.
