Provenance Reconstruction:

This flag was donated to the Alabama Department of Archives and History on July 4, 1907 by Thomas W. Sims of Mobile. The flag is a first national Confederate flag with eleven stars. The construction of this flag post dates May 20, 1861, the date that the eleventh and final state (North Carolina) seceded. The flag was unidentified at the time of donation and no further information concerning its regimental or company designation has been located.
