![]() Flag: C.S.A. Flag (First National Pattern) Catalogue No. 86.3973.1 Provenance Reconstruction: According to a museum label, this flag was captured at Fredericksburg,
Virginia by George Leach. Information written on an envelope found with the
flag states that it was donated to the Alabama Department of Archives and History
on July 18, 1920 by Colonel George E. Leach and William Preston Screws. A
scrap of paper inside the envelope is inscribed "Col. George E. Leach 151st Regt.
F.A. (of Minnesota) 2429 Pillsburg Avenue, Minneapolis, Minn." Colonel Leach
served with the 151st Field Artillery during World War I. His father, Captain
William B. Leach served as Adjutant of the 1st Minnesota Volunteer Infantry
during the Civil War. The reference to George Leach may be an error. However,
a Captain George W. Leach is listed on the staff of the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Division,
2nd Army Corps, July 2-3, 1863.
