54. Final Battle of the Creek War, 1814

Horseshoe Bend, Tallapoosa County

In a fierce battle, Tennessee militiamen, led by Andrew Jackson and supported by Native American allies, crushed Red Stick Creek Indians who had taken refuge in the bend of the Tallapoosa River. This battle crippled Creek resistance, marked the end of the Creek Indian War of 1813-1814, and resulted in the transfer of 23 million acres of Creek land to the United States.
