Official Alabama Salt Water Fish Fighting Tarpon
The fighting tarpon is a silvery, saltwater game fish that lives off the Alabama coast and in the Mobile estuary. In 1955, the Alabama Legislature selected the tarpon to be the state saltwater fish of Alabama. The fish was described as the "Silver King". The act said that visitors to Alabama enjoyed catching the tarpon and meeting the friendly people of Alabama, which was good publicly for the state. The largest tarpon caught in Alabama weighed 203 lbs. |
