William David Sellers, Jr.
The following biographical sketch was compiled at the time of induction into the Academy in 1985.
William D. Sellers was a native of Anniston, Alabama, having been born there on June 13, 1913. At the age of four, he moved along with his family to Birmingham, Alabama.
Mr. Sellers attended grammar and high school in Birmingham where he was active in the extra curricular activities of the school.
Upon graduation from high school, he enrolled at the University of Alabama and graduated in 1934 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. While a student at the University of Alahama, he was a participant in its athletic programs.
Mr. Sellers was a successful businessman being currently Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Baggett transportation Company. He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of First Alabama Rank of Birmingham. He was a Director of American Heritage Life Insurance Company and Multimedia, Inc., to name a few of his business interests.
Bill Sellers contributed generously of his time and his means to Crippled Children Clinic, Eye Foundation Hospital. and Boy Scouts of America. At the present time, he was serving on the President's Cabinet of the University of Alabama.
In 1981 William David Sellers, Jr., was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree by the University of Alabama in recognition of his outstanding contribution to higher education.
Mr. Sellers was married to Virginia Forsyth Sellers and they were the parents of two daughters and grandparents to seven grandchildren. He is now deceased.
