Frank Arthur Plummer

The following biographical sketch was compiled at the time of induction into the Academy in 1983.



Frank Arthur Plummer, banker, was born June 18, 1912, in Richland, New York.

Mr. Plummer earned the B.S. degree at Syracuse University in 1932 and the M.S. degree in 1933. He was a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking, Rutgers University.

He was Executive Vice President and Director of the Marine Bank and Trust Co., Tampa, Florida. He was Senior Vice President and Director of the First National Bank, Montgomery 1953-1958; President, 1964-1969; and Chairman of the Board and President since 1969. He served as President and Director of the Birmingham Trust National Bank 1959-1961 and as Chairman of the Board and President 1961-1964. He serves as President and Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of First Alabama Bancshares.

He entered the military as a Lieutenant and moved up the ranks to Colonel in the Pacific Area during World War II, 1940-1946.

He was a member of the Board of Visitors, Berry College. He is a Past Chairman of the Board Regents of Stonier Graduate School of Banking. He was a member of the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University. He was a Director of the Southern Research Institute, Birmingham.

He was a member of Beta Theta Phi, Delta Phi Sigma, Alpha Kappa Psi, and Beta Gamma Sigma.

He received the Honorary Degree, Doctor of Laws, Huntingdon College, 1972. He is listed in Who's Who in America.

Mr. Plummer married Elizabeth Higgins on September 10, 1938. Mr. Plummer is now deceased.
