The following biographical sketch was compiled at the time of induction into the Academy in 1996, updated October 2002.
Frank Hardy Bromberg, Jr. was born in Birmingham, Alabama, the son of
Frank Hardy Bromberg, Sr. and Annie Maude Wilkinson Bromberg.
Frank Bromberg, Jr. attended the grammar and high schools of
Birmingham. After high school he enrolled at the University of Alabama
in Tuscaloosa. Four years later he graduated from this institution's school
of Business Administration summa cum laude. He pursued his education
in the graduate school of New York University where he ranked number
one in his class.
Frank Bromberg, Jr. is married to Lella Hudson Clayton, and this union has
been blessed with four children and seven grandchildren.
Following his college career, he spent two years of his life as a captain in
the United States Air Corps. After being separated from the United States
military, Frank Bromberg, Jr. joined the family business of Bromberg &
Company, a name that has been respected among jewelers in Alabama and
the nation for six generations.
After years of hard work and dedication, Frank Bromberg, Jr. rose through
the ranks to the presidency of this successful enterprise. Yet Frank
Bromberg's business demands of his time and energy have not kept him
from being a good citizen. He continued to be active in Kiwanis, Boy
Scouts, Chamber of Commerce, Junior Achievement, Crippled Children's
Foundation, and the Better Business Bureau. During his presidency (1969-
70), the Birmingham Kiwanis Club was chosen by Kiwanis International
as the Outstanding Large Club in the world.
He has accepted the call to serve on the Boards of Directors of both
Jefferson Federal Savings & Loan Association and Central Bank of the
South. Frank Bromberg, Jr. has also rendered unusually splendid service
as a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Alabama. His
support for improved opportunities for the young of this state and nation in
the area of higher education is well known.
The primary concern of his busy life is his family. He not only sets a good
example for his family, but by example these loved one see him as a
supporter of the Cathedral Church of the Advent where he has been Senior
Warden and Sunday School Superintendent.
