Donald Comer, Jr.
The following biographical sketch was compiled at the time of induction into the Academy in 1974.
Donald Comer, Jr., former president of Avondale Mills and Chairman of the Board of Cowikee Mills, was born in Birmingham, Alabama. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Birmingham, First Federal Savings and Loan Association, and the Alabama Bancorporation.
As a leader in the textile industry in the nation he served on the Board of the American Textile Manufacturers Institute, the National Association of Manufacturers, and the Alabama Textile Manufacturers Association. His interest in the textile industry involved him in educational activities with consequent service on the Board of the Institute as well as the Avondale and Cowikee Education and Charitable Foundations.
He also served on the Executive Committee of the Boy Scouts of America, Region V and as president of the Choccolocco Council of the Boy Scouts. He is now deceased.
