THE ALABAMA HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION

The Alabama Historical Association, founded in 1947, is the oldest statewide historical society in Alabama. The Association sponsors The Alabama Review, a quarterly journal of Alabama history published by the University of Alabama Press, two Newsletters each year, a state historical marker program, The Sulzby Publication Award for the best book on Alabama history, the Coley Award for the best work on local history, the Hamilton Award for contributions to Alabama history, the Howard award for the best article published in The Alabama Review in a two year period, and a local historical society recognition award. The annual two-day meeting in April features talks, papers, and tours of historical sites and houses. The fall pilgrimage is a Saturday picnic with a tour of a historical site in Alabama.
